Power Outage Disrupts Tokyo’s Major Train Lines

Tokyo: A power outage rocked Tokyo's train system early Friday morning, disrupting tens of thousands of commuters after reports of a fire that temporarily halted service on two major train lines passing through one of the world's busiest stations. Japan East Railway Company (JR East) stated that all train services on the Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines have been suspended, with no set timeline for the resumption of normal service.

According to Thai News Agency, a fire broke out on the railway tracks near Tamachi Station, a station served by two train lines, at approximately 8:00 AM local time (6:00 AM Thailand time). Flames were seen emanating from an electrical transformer on the tracks. Authorities were able to bring the fire under control about 30 minutes later.

Additionally, NTV television station broadcast footage of numerous passengers disembarking from the Keihin-Tohoku line train, which was stranded between stations, and evacuating on foot along the tracks. Firefighters and railway staff provided close assistance.

The incident had a significant impact because the Yamanote Line is a major line running through Shinjuku Station, which has up to 3.5 million passengers per day, while the Keihin-Tohoku Line is a strategic link connecting key locations such as Tokyo and Yokohama Stations.
