Bangkok: The Prime Minister has confirmed reports of bombings at 11 locations across three southern border provinces, dismissing them as acts of terrorism. The Prime Minister, speaking on January 11th, reiterated that these incidents were not linked to terrorism but were rather signals in preparation for upcoming local elections. While no fatalities were reported, he emphasized vigilance and the importance of preventing future occurrences. The situation at the Thai-Cambodian border remains stable, though he urged against complacency.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the simultaneous bombings and arson attacks at 11 gas stations in Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani. He confirmed that security forces assessed the incidents as preparatory signals for local elections rather than acts of terrorism. Nonetheless, he coordinated with the 4th Army Region and the 9th Provincial Police Command to ensure preventive measures are in place.

Regarding potential emergency meetings, Mr. Anutin stated that discussions are ongoing among responsible officials. He also provided reassurance about the Thai-Cambodian border, noting a return to calm and that villagers displaced for over 20 days have returned home safely for the New Year. While there are no signs of potential clashes, he emphasized the need for ongoing vigilance and preparedness along the border.
