Bangkok: The Prime Minister convened a meeting of all relevant agencies to monitor the situation in the Middle East.
According to Thai News Agency, the private sector urged the government to urgently find ways to provide assistance in all areas to prevent soaring oil prices, high inflation, and increased freight costs, which could negatively impact the overall Thai economy in several ways.
Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul held a meeting to monitor the situation in the Middle East with all relevant agencies. Mr. Kriengsak Thianukul, President of the Federation of Thai Industries, stated that the private sector presented the impacts of the conflict in the Middle East, including preparing for an energy crisis and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, potential rising production costs in the industrial sector, and unpredictable geopolitical risks.
Ms. Treenuch Thianthong, Minister of Labour, emphasized the Ministry of Labour's focus on the safety of Thai workers in high-risk countries. Measures include relocating individuals from dangerous areas and establishing a 24-hour monitoring center to facilitate swift repatriation if necessary.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, addressed the issue of stranded passengers, instructing airlines to care for those with pre-purchased tickets and ensuring continued service despite longer travel times due to rerouted flights. He noted the potential challenges in shipping and energy transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, which could lead to increased costs.
