Prime Minister Directs Establishment of Damage Assessment Criteria for Homes Affected by Thai-Cambodian Clashes

Bangkok: The Prime Minister has instructed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Ministry of Finance to determine actual damage assessment criteria for houses destroyed in the clashes.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister has tasked these departments to jointly consider and establish criteria for providing assistance for house repairs affected by the Thai-Cambodian situation, ensuring that the assistance covers actual costs.

Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul chaired the Cabinet meeting. Prior to the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance, to establish guidelines for providing assistance for house repairs affected by the Thai-Cambodian situation, ensuring that the assistance covers actual costs.

Consideration could be given to establishing appropriate criteria specifically for this case, such as providing assistance equivalent to 70% of the assessed value of the house for extensive damage, in order to alleviate the suffering of the people. This is due to the recent Thai-Cambodian situation, which has caused damage to homes in several provinces. However, current regulations and guidelines for home repair assistance may not adequately cover the costs of extensive or total loss, which requires significant funds.
