Phrae: The Prime Minister, accompanied by his wife, inaugurated the "Phra That Cho Hae Temple Worship Ceremony and Phrae Grand Tung Procession Tradition 2026" in Phrae. They participated in draping the temple with cloth for good fortune and engaged in observing the local culture.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Ms. Thanathorn were present at Wat Phra That Cho Hae Royal Temple in Phrae Province for the 2026 Phrae Grand Tungs Festival. They were joined by Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Mr. Ekanat Promphan, Mr. Arsit Sampantharat, Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob, and Ms. Traisuli Traisaranakul.
The Prime Minister observed the procession of offerings from eight districts in front of Cho Hae Arboretum. He subsequently carried the cloth to cover the Phra That Cho Hae stupa, ascending the tiger staircase to conduct the ceremony. Governor Somchai Lertprasitiphan, heads of government departments, and the public also participated in the ceremony.
Following the wrapping ceremony, the Prime Minister visited activities at the Phrae city square, interacted with the public, and reviewed the implementation of policies promoting cultural tourism. He presented awards for the parade of offerings and straw sculptures of legendary animals of Phrae, and watched a performance of the Ramakien epic's "Yong Rob" episode before departing.
The event, spanning from February 22nd to March 3rd, 2026, was organized to honor His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen, and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. It aimed to uphold the religious traditions and local culture of Phrae Province, expressing reverence for the sacred Phra That Chedi. Activities included prayers to the 100-year-old Luang Pho Than Jai statue, a ceremony invoking Phra Maha Upakut, a Tungs competition, and a procession of offerings.
