Bangkok: The Prime Minister affirmed that the government will provide the best possible care and compensation to the families of the martyrs. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, in an interview after the ceremony to inter the ashes of fallen soldiers at the Victory Monument, stated that today, Veterans Day, a ceremony was held to commemorate the heroism of soldiers and citizens who sacrificed their lives to protect Thai soil. This year, the ashes of 42 brave soldiers who performed heroic deeds in defending Thai territory during conflicts with Cambodia were interred. The ceremony served as a remembrance of these 42 soldiers, and their families were invited to witness the profound gratitude the Thai people owe to them for their sacrifice in protecting the country.
According to Thai News Agency, regarding assistance, care, and welfare, there has been excellent cooperation from all parties, including both the private and public sectors. The government is committed to ensuring that the families of those who sacrificed their lives receive support and care, including cash assistance and support for the employment of family members, as a way of showing gratitude for their ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
Currently, for families without complications, the process has been completed. For those facing certain family limitations, the government has dispatched representatives from the military and the province, under the responsibility of the provincial governor, to discuss, plan, and coordinate the distribution of assets to ensure a fair and acceptable outcome for all parties.
The Prime Minister noted, "But mostly, there haven't been any problems. From what I've gathered and spoken with, all 42 families understand each other well. However, many of them need reassurance that once they receive this money, which is a considerable amount, they will be satisfied."
He added that for those receiving over 10 million baht, there is a need for good life planning, including how to manage the compensation, saving, and allocation of funds for their children and families to ensure a good quality of life. The government is committed to taking care of this until they are confident that the families can sustain themselves even without the head of the family.
After the interview, Mr. Anutin greeted war veterans from various battlefields, as well as their relatives who attended the ceremony at the monument plaza. Some members of the public approached him, requesting that the Thai-Cambodian border crossing remain closed, emphasizing the need to remember the lives of soldiers lost in the recent fighting.
