Public and Private Sectors to Accelerate Thailand’s Wellness Tourism Ecosystem

Bangkok: Public and private sectors have united to build a holistic Wellness Ecosystem, pushing Thailand's health economy toward international leadership. Mr. Chuwit Sirivajjakul, Deputy Governor for Policy and Planning at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), emphasized Thailand's cultural foundation in wellness, highlighting the country's traditional medicine, massage, and modern healthcare systems as pivotal elements of a global health and wellness destination. The initiative, dubbed 'The Wellness Hub Thailand, The Land of Life: The Journey Within,' aims to enhance tourism by focusing on both physical and mental well-being, thus increasing value per visitor and distributing benefits across the entire tourism and wellness value chain.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Tanupol Virunhagarun, CEO of BDMS Wellness Clinic and BDMS Wellness Resort, noted the global health challenges such as aging societies, non-communicable diseases, urban stress, and mental imbalance. BDMS emphasizes preventive healthcare, aiming to empower individuals with knowledge to prevent illness. Data from the Global Wellness Institute (GWI) shows Thailand's wellness economy ranking third globally with a 36.4% growth rate in 2023-2024, following the UAE and India. This growth highlights Thailand's potential to attract significant revenue by leveraging its natural beauty, rich cuisine, traditional knowledge, service culture, and advanced medical technology in wellness tourism.
