Bangkok: A recent NIDA poll reveals a significant lack of public sympathy for Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, alongside widespread distrust in the capability of three key ministers to tackle the ongoing energy and economic crises.
According to Thai News Agency, the poll, conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), found that 46.87% of respondents expressed no sympathy for the Prime Minister's administration. Moreover, the ministers in question-Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Supajee Suthamphan, and Ekniti Nitithanprapas-received low confidence ratings from the public.
The survey, titled "Professional Ministers... Can They Handle It?" was carried out between March 31 and April 1, 2026. It aimed to assess public confidence in the government's ability to manage pressing national issues. The results showed that Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, faced the most significant skepticism, with 40.38% of respondents expressing no confidence in his ability to manage the crises. Additionally, 37.10% were not very confident, while only 14.12% were somewhat confident in his leadership.
Similarly, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, also faced public doubt. Approximately 30.23% of those surveyed expressed no confidence at all in his capabilities, while 29.54% were not very confident. Only a small fraction, 16.03%, felt very confident in his efforts.
Ms. Supajee Suthamphan, serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, experienced comparable levels of public mistrust. The poll revealed that 33.89% of respondents had no confidence in her, and 28.70% were not very confident. A mere 14.35% expressed some level of confidence in her ability to navigate the crises.
The survey results indicate a broader sentiment of dissatisfaction and uncertainty about the government's handling of critical issues affecting the nation.
