Bangkok: "Rakchanok-Sia" has called on insured individuals to participate in a public hearing to oppose the draft regulations for electing the Social Security Board. They argue that the proposed changes reduce the influence of insured persons and have labeled the move as a coup that would restore the previous board's power. They warn that failure to reject the draft could lead to the emergence of questionable projects like the Sky Nine building within two years and have pledged to dismantle the system if brought into government.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Rakchanok Srinok and Mr. Sia Champathong, both candidates for Member of Parliament from the People's Party, have been campaigning in support of Mr. Parames Witayaraksan, a candidate in Bangkok Constituency 1. The trio is urging the public to vote against the Social Security Office's hearing on amendments that would alter the voting proportion for the Social Security Board elections.
The campaign began at Bang Wa BTS station, where the team distributed leaflets and held banners, attracting attention and sparking discussions among passersby. Ms. Rakchanok emphasized that rejecting the new election regulation is vital, describing it as a coup against the Social Security Board. She criticized attempts to change the election system to limit representation, arguing that it would lead to the re-election of the same board members and the initiation of unnecessary projects.
Ms. Rakchanok questioned why long-serving board members should feel ashamed if they had positively contributed to the social security system. She challenged the notion that politics should be excluded from social security, highlighting the political appointments within the board and calling for transparency and accountability.
She further criticized past projects like the Sky Nine building as results of poor politics and advocated for political involvement that promotes transparency and fairness in social security. Ms. Rakchanok urged the public to participate in the hearing to achieve a consensus against the proposed election system, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding contributions from corruption and ensuring they serve as a reliable safety net.
Ms. Rakchanok also appealed to key government figures, questioning delays in addressing the issues surrounding the Sky Nine building and urging for an investigation into past actions. She assured that under a People's Party government, corruption would be tackled, and the Social Security system would be reformed to enhance benefits for insured persons.
