Bangkok: "Ratchada" has dispelled rumors about an increase in the monthly welfare allowance to 3,000 baht, confirming that the payment rate remains unchanged. The government has plans to gradually introduce measures to assist the public but has not yet implemented an increase in the elderly allowance.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, addressed the false reports regarding the 3,000 baht increase in the elderly allowance. She clarified that while the government is committed to implementing policies to support the elderly, the allowance has not been raised and remains at the current rate. In terms of broader public support, initiatives such as the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" or "Half-Half" scheme, which offers a 60:40 payment, and assistance for state welfare cardholders are available. Ms. Ratchada emphasized that the claim of an increased elderly allowance is not true.
Ms. Rachada further explained that the government continues to determine the payment rate for elderly allowances based on the Ministry of Interior's regulations, as stipulated in the 2023 guidelines by local administrative organizations. Elderly allowances are distributed monthly according to age groups: individuals aged 60-69 receive 600 baht, those aged 70-79 receive 700 baht, individuals aged 80-89 receive 800 baht, and those aged 90 and above receive 1,000 baht per month.
