Bangkok: The Royal Household Bureau has announced that starting January 1, 2026, the public will no longer be able to pay respects to the late Queen Mother Sirikit's body during the day. However, the signing of the book of condolences and visits to Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) will remain accessible. The public is encouraged to verify the latest details before planning their visit.
According to Thai News Agency, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen have generously provided the Royal Calendar for the year 2569 (Buddhist Era) to those who sign the book of well-wishes for the New Year, offering blessings to the people. The Royal Household Bureau has announced the schedule for visiting the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Sri Rattanasadaram (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) on Thursday, January 1, 2569. The signing of the book of well wishes will be open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM opposite Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion, while tickets for visiting the Grand Palace will not be sold. Wat Phra Sri Rattanasadaram will be open for visits during the same hours, with access through the Sawatdisopha Gate. Paying respects to the Royal remains of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit at Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall will be suspended throughout the day.
Mr. Thaiwut Khankaew, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, stated that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has coordinated with all agencies to ensure comprehensive care and facilitation for citizens visiting to pay respects to Queen Sirikit. This includes medical care, security, traffic management, public services, and environmental management. As of December 28, 2025, 7,406 people had visited, bringing the total since October 27, 2025, to 394,948 visitors.
The BMA is prepared to support the Royal Household's mission, ensuring the process of paying respects is conducted smoothly and with respect. Despite the suspension of the practice from January 1, 2026, the signing of the book of condolences and visits to Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram will remain available from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The BMA advises the public to check for updates before traveling.
