Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army is preparing to request the King to bestow the "Medal of Valor" upon personnel who have served in the field along the Thai-Cambodian border. From the recent fighting along the Thai-Cambodian border, including the Battle of Yutthabodin in July 2025 and the Battle of Satthawat in December 2025, Royal Thai Army personnel serving in the field under the command of Commander Chakrabongse Bhuvanath have dedicated their physical and mental strength to fulfilling their mission of protecting national sovereignty and defending against enemy aggression to the best of their ability. These events have resulted in some personnel facing challenging and critical situations that could lead to injury or immediate loss of life. However, these personnel have remained steadfast in the spirit of professional soldiers, willing to sacrifice their blood, flesh, and lives, bravely confronting threats on the battlefield without fear of any danger.
According to Thai News Agency, General Phana Klaewplodthuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, recognizes the great sacrifice of these soldiers who performed their duties with dedication, courage, and fearlessness in the face of life-threatening danger. Therefore, he has instructed the Army Personnel Department, in conjunction with subordinate units serving in the field along the Thai-Cambodian border, to prepare a proposal to request royal bestowal of the Medal of Valor upon the soldiers and their families. This is to honor these brave soldiers, acknowledge their unwavering sacrifice, and boost morale, allowing them and their families to remember this significant event in their lives-a dedication to the nation-a moment of lasting value and pride in the medal.
Regarding this process, the Army Personnel Department is currently reviewing the qualifications and details of the individual missions of personnel in each battlefield, including those who died. A committee at the Army level is handling this review according to the criteria stipulated in the Medal of Valor Act of 1978. Once completed, the names of all personnel will be promptly submitted to the committees at the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence for the purpose of requesting royal patronage for the medals of bravery to be bestowed upon the personnel and their families, ensuring they receive the honorable recognition.
