Trat: The Royal Thai Navy has affirmed its commitment to maintaining control along the troop deployment line in Trat Province, following an incident involving the removal of barbed wire fences. Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyapan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, addressed concerns over reports circulating on social media regarding the removal of these fences near Ban Tha Sen on January 15, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Navy clarified that the barbed wire fences were initially placed by the Trat Marine Corps Task Force (TMTF Trat) to delineate the troop deployment line as per a Joint Statement signed by the Defence Ministers of both countries on December 27, 2025. An investigation revealed that Chinese nationals conducting business in the area had dismantled part of the fence to access their shops. Military personnel promptly intervened and halted their actions, determining that there was no intent to disrupt Thai military operations but acknowledging the impact on state security measures. The individuals involved were warned and provided with an explanation.
Further measures were taken by the Marine Corps Task Force in Trat, which included deploying officers to manage the situation and expelling the individuals from the area in accordance with proper procedures. The task force also expedited the repair and reinforcement of the barbed wire fence to its original condition, ensuring the maintenance of clear troop deployment lines and the security of the military outpost. Additional measures have been implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Royal Thai Navy confirmed that all actions were conducted prudently and within the framework of the agreement between Thailand and its neighboring country. The nation remains dedicated to upholding the principles of the Joint Statement to ensure stability, security, and positive relations in the border region.
