Royal Thai Police Vows No Protection for Officer Involved in Huai Khwang Shooting

Bangkok: Police affirm they will not protect the border patrol officer who shot the motorcycle taxi driver in Huai Khwang, emphasizing the need to contain conflicts in public areas.

According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Police expressed their condolences over the shooting incident in the Huai Khwang area, emphasizing that the case will be handled fairly and impartially, and that there will be no leniency for any police officers found guilty. They also stressed the importance of proactively resolving conflicts in public areas.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, stated that a shooting incident occurred in Soi Pracha Songkhro 38, Huai Khwang District, Bangkok, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. The perpetrator has surrendered to the police, and initial investigations reveal that he is a police officer from the Border Patrol Police Command. The Royal Thai Police expresses its condolences to the family of the deceased and sends its support to all those injured. Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, has instructed investigators to meticulously gather all evidence to ensure justice for all parties.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong revealed that the Commissioner General of Police has instructed the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Command and Huai Khwang Police Station to proceed with the case based on evidence in a straightforward, transparent, and fair manner, prohibiting any assistance, interference, or discrimination under any circumstances.

If the investigation reveals that the police officer in question is guilty, he will be subject to both criminal and disciplinary action, just like any other citizen, without exception.

Furthermore, the Commissioner General of Police has instructed relevant agencies to expedite the analysis of the causes and environmental factors of the incident in order to determine measures to prevent violence in public areas, especially in residential areas, gathering places of various professional groups, and areas with a history of repeated complaints about conflict or aggressive behavior.

The spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police added that the Royal Thai Police places great importance on maintaining the ethical standards and discipline of all police officers, because the actions of any one individual should not affect the public's trust in the majority of police officers who perform their duties with integrity.
