Bangkok: "Ruttaphol" has confirmed that no politicians were found to be involved in the "scammer gang" as they continue to gather evidence in the "Ben Smith" case. The potential seizure of assets belonging to "Chonnapat" remains undisclosed as it is part of the case file. Meanwhile, a representative from an online crime victim assistance agency expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul for his efforts in recovering assets for victims.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Yosawin Pienpitak, representing the call center victim assistance group, made this statement after meeting with Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol Nawarat, Minister of Justice, and Mr. Paradorn Prisnanantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office. A formal letter of thanks was submitted to the government and Prime Minister.
Pienpitak appreciated the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice for their support to scam victims. The Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) has seized assets, with a total of over 13 billion baht recovered from the perpetrators, credited to the Prime Minister's commitment.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol mentioned that upon receiving the letter and initial discussions, it was identified that the victims' deception was a major issue, leading banks to file lawsuits and seize assets. The Ministry of Justice and the Department of Rights Protection are tasked with resolving debt issues before court verdicts. Post-judgment, the Department of Legal Execution will manage public debts. The Department of Rights Protection will coordinate to provide immediate compensation for asset losses to scam victims.
In terms of the criminal case, the perpetrators will face justice, and no negligence will be tolerated. Investigations have so far indicated no political involvement.
For Mr. Ben Smith's case, evidence gathering is ongoing to determine potential arrest warrant issuance and his role in the crime. Details remain confidential. Similarly, information related to Mr. Chanonphat Naksua, a prospective MP for Songkhla Constituency 4, and potential asset seizure are part of the ongoing investigation.
Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol Nawarat addressed his potential continuation in Anutin Charnvirakul's government, stating that no contact has been made. His future role depends on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting today.
When asked about his readiness to continue if approached by Mr. Anutin, Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol noted there are many steps involved and reiterated that no contact has been made yet.
