Bangkok: Saen Saep Canal boat fares will see an increment of 3 baht per trip, commencing today. The announcement comes as a response to the increasing oil prices affecting the operational costs of the boat service.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chawalith Methayapraphas, Managing Director of Krobkrua Transport (2002) Co., Ltd., the owner of the Saen Saep Canal boat service, disclosed that the fare adjustment is necessary to sustain the business amidst the challenging energy cost scenario. The fare adjustment will raise the existing fare from 16-26 baht to 19-29 baht, based on travel distance. Further increments are planned, with an additional 3 baht on April 14 and another 1 baht on April 21, resulting in a fare range of 20-30 baht.
Effective today, the fare increase is structured at 3 baht per distance segment, reflecting a fare schedule aligned with a diesel fuel cost range of 45.01-47 baht per liter, although the current diesel price surpasses 50 baht per liter.
Mr. Chawalith noted that the transport service, which has been in operation for 40 years, is experiencing an unprecedented surge in oil prices, prompting the fare hike. He assured that the fare adjustments are a direct consequence of the energy market dynamics, and there is a willingness to lower fares should oil prices decrease in the future.
