Scattered Thunderstorms Forecasted for Lower Central and Eastern Regions Amidst Hot Weather

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department reports hot weather during the day in upper Thailand, but scattered thunderstorms are still expected, mostly in the lower central and eastern regions. Meanwhile, air pollution levels are moderate to fairly high.

According to Thai News Agency, the department forecasts that over the next 24 hours, upper Thailand will experience hot weather during the day, but scattered thunderstorms are still expected, mostly in the lower central and eastern regions. This is due to a weak high-pressure system or cold air mass from China continuing to cover the upper northeastern region and the South China Sea. Southerly and southeasterly winds are bringing moisture from the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea to upper Thailand. People in these areas should be aware of the dangers of thunderstorms and take care of their health due to the rising temperatures.

For the southern region, scattered thunderstorms are expected due to easterly winds covering the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea. Wave heights of 1-2 meters are expected in the lower Gulf of Thailand, and over 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should exercise caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.

Currently, the accumulation of particulate matter or haze in upper Thailand is at a moderate to fairly high level due to weak ventilation.

The regional weather forecast for specific areas includes Bangkok and surrounding areas experiencing hot weather during the day with a 10% chance of thunderstorms. Meanwhile, Northern Thailand will see similar weather conditions, with chances of thunderstorms mostly in provinces like Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai. Northeastern Thailand will also have a 10% chance of thunderstorms, mainly affecting provinces such as Loei and Nakhon Ratchasima.

In the Central Region, hot weather with a 10% chance of thunderstorms is expected, particularly in Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi provinces. The Eastern Region, however, will have a 20% chance of thunderstorms, affecting provinces like Prachinburi and Chonburi. The sea has waves approximately 1 meter high, and in areas with thunderstorms, the waves are higher than 2 meters.

In the Southern Region, both the East and West Coasts will have a 10% chance of thunderstorms. The East Coast will mainly see these in provinces such as Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan, while the West Coast will experience thunderstorms mostly in Ranong and Phang Nga provinces. Mariners should remain vigilant due to potentially high waves in areas experiencing thunderstorms.
