Bangkok: The SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) has charged five individuals with illegally buying and selling WLD cryptocurrency. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed charges against five individuals for operating an unauthorized digital asset trading business, specifically providing services for buying and selling Worldcoin (WLD).
According to Thai News Agency, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed charges against five individuals: (1) Ms. Sridda Jittueafue, (2) Mr. Mongkol Chantharat, (3) Mr. Piyameht Noti, (4) Ms. Natcha Rungkasattra (formerly Ms. Thidarat Rungkasattra), and (5) Ms. Takshaporn Khajornphap, with the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECSD) for the offense of engaging in the business of trading digital assets without permission under the Digital Asset Business Act B.E. 2561 (2018 Digital Asset Act).
The SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand) has found that the aforementioned individuals have engaged in or participated in providing services for buying and selling Worldcoin (WLD) and have disseminated information about these services through social media channels in Thai. They have also presented themselves to the public as offering their services as a regular business, operating outside of a digital asset exchange, which constitutes conducting digital asset trading business without a license. This is a violation of Section 26 of the Digital Assets Act, in conjunction with Section 83 of the Criminal Code, as applicable, and is punishable under Section 66 of the Digital Assets Act. Therefore, the SEC has filed charges against five individuals with the Economic Crime Suppression Division for further legal action.
Following the SEC's indictment, the subsequent criminal enforcement process involves investigation by police officers, prosecution by the public prosecutor, and trial by the court. The SEC will monitor the progress of the case and fully cooperate with relevant agencies to support law enforcement under the Digital Assets Act in the process after the SEC has filed the indictment.
The Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand (SEC) urges the public and investors to exercise caution when using services from digital asset businesses that are not licensed under Thai law and under the SEC's supervision. Users will not receive legal protection and face risks of scams and money laundering.
