Bangkok: Police escorted a security guard to Pathumwan District Court. He looked dejected as he got into the vehicle, refusing to answer questions about the assault on the female delivery rider, but nodded, acknowledging his remorse for the incident.
According to Thai News Agency, police brought the security guard who assaulted a female delivery rider to Pathumwan Police Station late yesterday evening. The group of delivery riders were shouting in anger after their fellow rider, a woman, was attacked and rendered unconscious. The reason is that Mr. Chamnong, 67, filed a police report at Pathumwan Police Station stating that his niece, Ms. Suphannika, 28, and her husband, Mr. Nattawut, 28, both delivery riders, were assaulted and injured by two security guards at a racetrack in the Pathumwan area. The incident occurred after an argument about delivering food inside the racetrack, around 3:00 PM on the same day.
Police then took the security guards to Pathumwan Police Station for questioning and legal proceedings. News of the incident spread on social media, causing nearly 100 delivery riders to gather in front of the police station to see the two security guards involved. They live-streamed the event and attempted to assault the two security guards as police escorted them from the vehicle into the station. Police eventually brought the situation under control.
Regarding the case, after the two injured individuals received treatment at the Police Hospital, they provided medical certificates to the investigating officers. The documents indicated that Ms. Suphannika suffered inflammation of her right jaw and had to remain hospitalized for two days, while her husband, Mr. Nattawut, sustained minor injuries. Initially, the perpetrators were charged with jointly assaulting others resulting in injury.
Security guard at racetrack taken into custody and charged in Pathum Thani District Court.
This morning, police from Pathumwan Police Station escorted Mr. Pornsak, 54, the security guard who committed the offense, to Pathumwan District Court. While being escorted to the vehicle, the suspect appeared to have a leg injury, causing him to limp. Reporters attempted to question him about the incident, but he remained silent and refused to answer any questions.
The reporter then asked if he wanted to apologize to the female victim. The suspect remained silent, not answering the question. When asked if he regretted the incident, the suspect nodded. The reporter further asked if he had kicked the female victim in the chin, to which he shook his head in denial. Finally, the reporter asked if he was concerned about his safety after this incident, to which the suspect nodded.
Initially, during questioning, the suspect admitted to initiating the assault on the female delivery rider. The incident began when the victim, a delivery rider, arrived at the racetrack to deliver food on her motorcycle. Normally, the racetrack has a delivery procedure where riders park their motorcycles and then walk to deliver the food, a procedure repeatedly instructed by security guards. However, the suspect claimed that both riders ignored the security guard's instructions and parked in the designated area. The security guard then told them to park their motorcycles first before delivering the food. The female rider then got off her motorcycle, and the male rider parked his. The suspect admitted to reprimanding the female rider, leading to a verbal argument. He further claimed that the female rider used abusive and vulgar language, causing him to become enraged, grab a helmet, and hit her with it, resulting in a brawl. He stated he couldn't recall if he kicked the female rider in the chin, but believed the brawl may have occurred.
The security guard admitted that if he could go back in time, he would control his emotions better. Initial reports indicate that the security guard sustained injuries to his left big toe and bruising on his right leg. The other security guard initially claimed he only intervened to stop the fight but had no intention of harming the delivery rider. This security guard also sustained injuries.
Police reveal that delivery riders surrounded the police station, but no illegal activity was found.
Pol. Col. Rangsan Sonsing, acting superintendent of Pathumwan Police Station, revealed that after questioning the victim, the rider confirmed that he would only press charges against the security guard who committed the assault. The victim did not wish to press charges against the other security guard who only tried to intervene.
Regarding last night's incident, a disturbance occurred when friends of the injured rider came to Pathumwan Police Station. Initially, no wrongdoing was found within the police station's jurisdiction. No physical assault or damage to government property was discovered, therefore no charges were filed against the riders.
