Bangkok: Senator Pinyaphat Sansaneeyawin praised Thai workers for their essential contribution to strengthening the nation’s economy, highlighting challenges anticipated in 2025 due to the trade war and tariffs. She underscored the importance of supporting the government’s efforts in skill development and urged consideration of incentives for organizations employing senior workers.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Pinyaphat, speaking on National Labor Day 2025, expressed her appreciation for Thai workers, describing them as a crucial force in driving economic progress. She emphasized that Labor Day should serve as a reminder of the workers’ significant contribution to Thailand’s economic and social development.
Ms. Pinyaphat noted that 2025 will pose numerous challenges for the Thai labor sector, particularly due to the turbulent global economy. Factors such as industry closures and mass layoffs, compounded by trade wars and tariff obstacles, are expected to impact Thai workers for the next 4-5 years.
To address these challenges, she urged the government to take proactive measures, including heeding labor organizations’ suggestions to improve working conditions and enhance social security systems.
Ms. Pinyaphat advocated for skill development and job provision to ensure Thai workers can work efficiently and maintain a stable quality of life. She highlighted the shift towards an aging society in Thailand and the growing trend of organizations extending retirement ages or rehiring senior workers.
She suggested that older workers, with their experience and potential, can be valuable assets if provided with suitable job opportunities. Ms. Pinyaphat recommended that both public and private sectors establish support systems, such as age-appropriate job placements and continuous skill training, to ensure seniors can contribute confidently.
Furthermore, she proposed that the government consider tax incentives and expanded social security benefits to encourage the employment of senior citizens, promoting their quality of life and continued societal contribution.
Ms. Pinyaphat concluded by emphasizing that treating workers of all ages equally would lead to a stronger economy and a more equitable society.
