Severe Winter Storm Paralyzes Northeastern United States

New york city: A winter storm battered the northeastern United States. A severe winter storm swept through the northeastern United States over the weekend, expected to be the most intense in the area in nearly 10 years.

According to Thai News Agency, approximately 54 million people are under storm watch orders, with 35-41 million under blizzard warnings across Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maine. Heavy snowfall of 18-28 inches is expected in some areas, with rates of up to 3-4 inches per hour and gusts of nearly 90 kilometers per hour, potentially causing widespread power outages and temperatures to drop below freezing.

The mayor of New York City announced a citywide ban on non-essential vehicle travel from 9:00 PM Sunday to 12:00 PM Monday. All roads, highways, and bridges were closed, and school classes were cancelled. More than 3,500 flights were cancelled on Sunday, with major airports like JFK and LaGuardia being the hardest hit. This marks the first time in nine years that New York City has been under a snowstorm warning.

Earlier, snowstorm warnings were issued for New York City and several areas of New Jersey and Connecticut since Saturday as a major storm was forecast to move towards the east coast of the United States. Heavy snowfall and gusty winds were also warned for areas from the mid-Atlantic to the northeastern United States between Sunday and Monday, local time.
