Shanghai Hosts 8th China International Import Expo with Record Participation

Shanghai: The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE), the world’s inaugural national import-focused expo, commenced in Shanghai. Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the expo and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum.

According to Thai News Agency, Li emphasized the importance of upholding equality and mutual benefit while reinforcing the foundation of legitimate common interests. He urged for collaborative efforts to safeguard international fairness and justice. Li stated that China is prepared to collaborate with all parties to advance the global governance initiative in the realms of international economic and trade, aiming to enhance the multilateral trading system centered around the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Li also mentioned that the recent adoption of the drafting guidelines for the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development (2026-2030) by the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee has provided further stability for China’s economic and social development going forward.

China aims to pursue high-quality development, contributing significantly to global economic growth. The country plans to promote high-standard opening-up, expand institutional opening-up, and initiate pilot projects to expedite opening-up in the service sector.

This year’s edition, themed “New Era, Shared Future” from November 5-10, featured the largest exhibition area and the highest number of exhibitors in history. The expo attracted 4,108 overseas exhibitors from 155 countries, regions, and international organizations, covering a total exhibition area of over 430,000 square meters.
