Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, has announced that Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be the party’s second-choice candidate for the prime minister position. Anutin highlighted Sihasak’s extensive experience in foreign affairs as crucial during the ongoing Thai-Cambodian border situation, asserting that his expertise makes him an apt choice for strengthening Thailand’s global confidence.
According to Thai News Agency, the Bhumjaithai Party is gearing up for an increase in its parliamentary presence and is preparing for unforeseen events to ensure the smooth operation of the government. Anutin emphasized the importance of readiness and revealed that while several trusted individuals were approached for candidacy, some declined due to personal limitations. However, all remain willing to join the government should the party continue its governance.
Anutin addressed rumors regarding the voluntary nature of joining the party, criticizing certain TV programs for misrepresenting the situation and creating public misunderstandings. He clarified that no coercion was involved in party membership.
The party’s strategy of having multiple candidates is aimed at ensuring continuity in governance rather than playing political games. Anutin expressed confidence in Sihasak’s ability to fulfill the prime ministerial role if required, and he noted that future party members also possess the potential to be candidates. Ultimately, the decision will rest with the electorate on February 8, 2026.
