Sihasak Seeks China’s Support for Lasting Ceasefire Between Thailand and Cambodia

Yunnan province: Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew expressed hopes for China's support in establishing a sustainable ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia during his recent visit to Yunnan Province, China. The visit, which took place on December 28-29, was conducted at the invitation of Wang Yi, a key figure in China's political landscape as a member of the Politburo and Director of the Central Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China, as well as the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs. The meeting also included Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting was a follow-up to a recent visit by a special envoy from China to both Thailand and Cambodia. The primary aim was to communicate the importance of China's support for a sustainable ceasefire and to discourage Cambodia from reigniting or creating further conflict. Minister Phuangketkaew emphasized that Thailand seeks China's constructive role in achieving a lasting ceasefire by sending a clear signal to Cambodia.

Mr. Sihasak highlighted that the fundamental principle of this ceasefire is to empower Thailand and Cambodia to address and resolve their issues independently. He reiterated that while Thailand is committed to resolving existing problems, it remains firm in its actions and refuses to yield to external pressures.
