Bangkok: The SIRIVANNAVARI brand has unveiled the ceremonial attire for the Thai athletes to wear at the opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games (Asian Games 2026), which will be held in Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, Creative Director of the SIRIVANNAVARI brand, designed the ceremonial outfits at the invitation of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
According to Thai News Agency, this design aims to showcase the potential of Thai fashion on the international stage by blending the identity and wisdom of Thai fabrics with contemporary fashion, instilling pride in the Thai people. The outfits will be worn by over 900 Thai athletes and national team officials who will represent Thailand in Asian competitions.
The launch took place on August 21, 2026, in the ballroom of the Fairmont Sukhumvit 20 Hotel, Bangkok, through a video and photography campaign under the concept of 'The Art of Unity,' conveying the power of unity through Thai national athletes: View-Kulavut Vitidsarn (male badminton player), Yu-Ballang Thabthimdaeng (male taekwondo athlete), Beam-Pimphichaya Kokram (female volleyball player), and Ying-Suthasinee Sawatbut (female table tennis player), along with Tennis-Panipak Wongpattanakit, a former female taekwondo athlete and legend of success in Thai sports.
The heart of the ceremonial attire lies in the combination of hand-woven indigo-dyed cotton from the "Don Koi Model," a sustainable village project under the royal initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in Sakon Nakhon Province, with cotton woven from the Foundation for the Promotion of Arts and Crafts under Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. This reflects Thai wisdom and craftsmanship born from the patience, meticulousness, and skill of the weavers at every stage, from dyeing with natural indigo materials to hand weaving.
The uniqueness of Don Koi fabric lies in the fact that each piece has different patterns and shades of color, depending on the weaver's technique and skill. This is much like each athlete, with their own unique characteristics and individuality, but when they come together under the Thai flag, those differences merge into a unified force, perfectly aligning with the concept of "The Art of Unity."
The ceremonial attire consists of four pieces: a hand-woven cotton jacket with three pockets, a white shirt with long, pointed lapels and a chest panel embroidered with patterns depicting Thai-Japanese culture, matching trousers with an adjustable waist clasp and peacock logo, and a tie with the brand's signature "Diamond Knot". Therefore, this uniform for the Thai athletes is not merely attire for the opening ceremony, but represents "Thai identity stepping onto the international stage," a fusion of contemporary fashion, craftsmanship, local wisdom, and the pride of the Thai people.
The Thai athletes, numbering over 900, will wear these uniforms as they march into the stadium during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Asian Games, which will take place from September 19th to October 4th, 2026. This will demonstrate the power of unity and bring pride to Thailand on the Asian stage with dignity.
