Social Security Office Clarifies Misunderstanding on Compensation Payment

Bangkok: The Social Security Office has addressed a misunderstanding regarding the 150 baht compensation payment, clarifying that the actual amount entitled to insured individuals is 6,900 baht.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Kanjana Poolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, explained a case that recently circulated on social media. An insured individual, Mr. Wattana Ngamdamnern, mistakenly believed he was only entitled to 150 baht in unemployment compensation, having misunderstood the reporting information on his benefits. Upon inspecting his records, he viewed "1 day 150 baht" and assumed it was the total compensation due.

The Social Security Office has since verified that Mr. Ngamdamnern is eligible for unemployment compensation totaling 6,900 baht, to be disbursed in three installments from November 17, 2025, to January 1, 2026. The office assured that the full amount will be paid within the next week following direct communication with officials, which clarified the misunderstanding.

Ms. Poolkaew expressed apologies for any inconvenience and reiterated the Social Security Office's dedication to delivering accurate and fair services. Efforts will be made to improve communication and information dissemination to all insured persons in the future.

Niyada Seneemanomai, Deputy Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, elaborated on the principles guiding unemployment compensation calculations. For terminated employees, the compensation is 60% of the wages used for contributions. While this typically suffices for monthly salaried employees, daily-wage earners receive compensation based on the average of their highest three months of earnings prior to unemployment, divided by 30 days.
