Bangkok: A court sentenced the son of a former prominent senator to 132 years and 6 months in prison, but will serve only 20 years according to the law, in a case involving operating an online gambling website and money laundering.
According to Thai News Agency, the Criminal Court sentenced Mr. Narotm, also known as "Hi-so Hu," for his involvement in running an online gambling operation and engaging in money laundering activities. Despite the lengthy sentence, legal stipulations dictate that he will serve only 20 years. The ruling, delivered on April 27th, highlighted Narotm's ownership of the financial system used for deposits and withdrawals on the gambling platform, which boasted a monthly turnover of 5 billion baht.
Narotm was initially apprehended by the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau on July 17, 2024, but was subsequently released on bail as he awaited trial. The case involved a total of nine defendants, and Narotm's absence during the verdict led to the issuance of an arrest warrant, with the sentencing pronounced in his absence.
