Bangkok: The Aeronautical Radio of Thailand has been instructed by Deputy Minister of Transport, Mrs. Manoporn Charoensri, to ensure all preparations are in place to manage the expected surge in air traffic during the Songkran Festival. A total of 18,530 flights are anticipated over the festival period, averaging 2,647 flights per day, marking a 14% increase from the previous year.
According to Thai News Agency, Mrs. Manoporn emphasized that the Ministry of Transport is committed to facilitating smooth travel for the public as many people journey to their hometowns during this festive period. The Aeronautical Radio of Thailand has projected this significant increase in flights between April 11-17, 2025, compared to the same timeframe in 2024.
Mr. Surachai Nooprom, Deputy Managing Director and Acting President of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co., Ltd. (AEROTHAI), shared insights into the meticulous planning undertaken to ensure safety and efficiency in air traffic management. AEROTHAI has proactively assessed traffic conditions and coordinated with both domestic and international aviation bodies to implement Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) measures. This preparation includes ensuring adequate staffing, maintaining readiness of systems and equipment, and facilitating air traffic information for service users.
Mr. Surachai also highlighted the round-the-clock operations of AOT’s management and staff, aligning with the Ministry of Transport’s safety plans. AOT has prepared for potential emergencies by setting up backup locations, practicing emergency procedures, and maintaining close coordination with aviation and related agencies. This comprehensive approach aims to guarantee maximum safety and efficiency for all flights during the festival period.
