Bangkok: The Southern Thailand Federation of Industries has expressed its support for the appointment of Ms. Supajee Suthamphan as Deputy Prime Minister, aiming to consolidate three economic ministries to promote processed agricultural products on a global scale. Mr. Adisorn Tanhengchuan, the federation's chairman, welcomed the approach of forming a new government under the Bhumjaithai Party's leadership, stating that a swift formation of the cabinet would enhance confidence in the industrial sector and attract investment.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Adisorn expressed his support for Ms. Supajee, who currently serves as Minister of Commerce, to take on the additional role of Deputy Prime Minister. She would oversee the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Industry, integrating the work of these key ministries. Mr. Adisorn trusts in Ms. Supajee's business acumen and vision to elevate Thai agricultural products' standards, leveraging innovation to add value and enhance competitiveness on the global stage.
Mr. Adisorn highlighted the importance of connecting "upstream to downstream" in driving the economy. He underscored that the Ministry of Agriculture's focus should be on adding value to crops, while the Ministry of Industry should provide technological support. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Commerce should work on expanding international markets, aided by the Ministry of Finance through tax incentives. He believes that having a market-savvy minister like Ms. Supajee overseeing this integration will help address issues of low-priced and low-quality agricultural products sustainably. This strategy is expected to build confidence among trading partners and positively impact farmers' incomes and the service sector in southern Thailand, a crucial production base for the country.
