State Railway of Thailand Ensures Smooth Travel During Songkran 2026

Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is prepared to ensure a safe and efficient travel experience for passengers during the Songkran holiday in 2026, with no stranded passengers anticipated. Anan Pothinimdaeng, Acting Governor of the SRT, inspected Bangkok Central Station, where over 91,101 people traveled on April 10, 2026, and emphasized the implementation of strict safety measures.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anan Pothinimdaeng, who also serves as the Deputy Governor of the SRT, assessed the readiness of services at Bangkok Central Station, a key hub during the high passenger volume period of the Songkran Festival 2026. He directed relevant departments to manage train operations and services efficiently, ensuring a seamless travel experience. In addition, he participated in distributing souvenirs to passengers to enhance the festive atmosphere.

Mr. Anan visited the SRT Safety Operations Center and the long-distance train preparation area to ensure the readiness of locomotives and passenger carriages. He reinforced the Ministry of Transport's policy, "No matter what time you depart, you'll arrive home safely, just like with Smart Travel Songkran 2026," focusing on reducing accidents and ensuring passenger safety.

On April 10, 2026, the Southern Line saw the highest passenger traffic with 32,293 passengers, followed by the Northeastern, Northern, Eastern, Mahachai, and Maeklong lines. The stations maintained order, and no passengers were reported stranded. For April 11, 2026, the start of the Songkran holiday, the SRT anticipates 109,796 passengers, and has scheduled over 210 daily passenger trains, including four special trains.

The SRT has enhanced safety measures by collaborating with the Royal Thai Police's Central Investigation Bureau, deploying police officers to ensure security on trains and at stations, and coordinating with local agencies to staff high-risk railway-road crossings. Road users are urged to observe safety protocols at level crossings to prevent accidents.

In a bid to manage resources efficiently, the SRT announced the cancellation of tourist trains on the Bangkok - Nam Tok route from April 11-15, 2026, and special freight trains on the Bangkok - Suai Ngai Kolok route from April 9-18, 2026.
