Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is set to resume train services on the Northeastern line between Kaeng Khoi and Nakhon Ratchasima starting January 24th at 5:00 AM.
According to Thai News Agency, the SRT has confirmed its readiness to reopen this critical railway segment following comprehensive safety upgrades and inspections.
The decision to restart services comes after the implementation of stringent safety protocols in response to a recent incident. The SRT has mandated that construction work posing any risk be conducted exclusively during designated road closures and window periods. Site inspections and joint agreements with all stakeholders are now prerequisites before commencing work, and personnel assignments at both origin and destination points have been enforced. Additionally, construction activities must halt immediately once the path is clear for train passage. The project owner must also ensure strict supervision and control over contractors.
In light of the accident involving a construction crane at the Thai-Chinese high-speed rail project, all structures and equipment have been removed, and necessary repairs and inspections of the railway track have been completed. Safety measures now include setting speed limits for trains and installing warning signs at construction sites.
Railway officials, in collaboration with related agencies and the contracting company, are conducting a final safety inspection today, January 23, 2026. They aim to secure safety certification from relevant authorities to guarantee passenger safety before officially reopening the service. The initial train service will feature local train No. 431 for the northbound journey and ordinary train No. 234 for the southbound journey.
Mr. Anan Pothinimdaeng, Deputy Governor and Acting Governor of the SRT, emphasized the focus on safety in the reopening process, assuring the public of close monitoring during the construction phase. The SRT remains committed to maintaining high safety standards to foster public confidence in rail travel.
