Summer Storm Topples Banyan Tree at Wat Chan Tawan Ok, Damages Monks’ Quarters

Phitsanulok: A summer storm swept through Phitsanulok, toppling a giant banyan tree at Wat Chan Tawan Ok temple and damaging monks' living quarters.

According to Thai News Agency, the storm, accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds, affected several areas of Phitsanulok province last night. At Wat Chan Tawaneast in Mueang district, a 50-year-old banyan tree fell, damaging two monks' residences. Additionally, two power poles within the temple grounds collapsed onto the monks' quarters. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported despite the widespread power outage that ensued. The temple promptly instructed affected monks to relocate their sleeping areas and alerted authorities to clear the debris and address the fallen power poles.

This morning, officials from the Phitsanulok Municipality and the Provincial Electricity Authority conducted a detailed survey of the damage. They deployed heavy machinery to cut down the fallen trees, clear the area, and restore the power infrastructure. The entire process took approximately one hour, after which normal power supply was reinstated.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted a reduction in summer storms today, though rain is still expected in various areas. In the coming days, northern Thailand will experience reduced rainfall and scattered thunderstorms, with temperatures rising during the day due to southerly and southwesterly winds. From February 28 to March 3, northern Thailand will face hotter temperatures, while the southern region will see increased rainfall. Residents in northern Thailand are advised to safeguard their health amidst the rising temperatures.
