Supachai Denies Allegations of Misuse in ‘Half-Price Plus’ Scheme

Bangkok: Supachai Jaisamut, a prominent candidate from the Bhumjaithai Party, has reiterated that the party is being unjustly accused in connection with the "Half-Price Plus" scheme. Supachai disclosed further details about the suspension of a significant 10,000 baht digital currency distribution, revealing concerns about a suspicious diversion of 157 billion baht from citizens to contractors. He called for public transparency and reiterated that the Bhumjaithai Party was falsely implicated, asserting that the scheme was detrimental to public interest.

According to Thai News Agency, Supachai Jaisamut, a Bhumjaithai Party list candidate, refuted accusations made by Ms. Monporn Charoensri of the Pheu Thai Party. Charoensri alleged that a minority party misappropriated digital wallet funds for the "Half-Price Plus" project, a policy attributed to the Bhumjaithai Party. Supachai clarified that the digital wallet initiative, initiated under Prime Minister Settha Thavisin and continued by Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra's government, faced objections from various agencies, preventing its continuation. The process of creating new tokens or digital currencies raised concerns, suspected to be linked to an agreement with a Singaporean company allegedly supported by Ben Smith during Mr. Prasert Chantharawong's tenure as Minister of Digital Economy and Society. The current Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Mr. Chaiyanok Chidchob, is investigating the matter.

Supachai emphasized that when the government failed to execute the 10,000 baht cash handout project, the allocated 157 billion baht budget was redirected to infrastructure development projects, including road and building construction and water resource development. Instead of directly disbursing funds to villagers, the money was allocated to contractors, with the government justifying it as a measure to stimulate long-term GDP growth.

Supachai stated, "This is what we need to answer to the public: why was the transfer suspended? The 157 billion baht ultimately ended up in the pockets of major contractors. I'm saying this to emphasize that what MP Monporn said is a slander against the Bhumjaithai Party. Even after the transfer was suspended, the money remained with the Paetongtarn government. We will definitely take legal action against her. We are in the process of submitting the matter to the Election Commission. I urge the people of Nakhon Phanom who are listening to know that what Ms. Monporn said is not true; it is a slander against the Bhumjaithai Party."
