Bangkok: "Supamas" discusses with electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, aiming for common measures to build confidence and protect EV users.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, chaired a meeting focused on consumer protection measures for electric vehicles. The session, which included EV manufacturers, the Consumer Council, and representatives from relevant government agencies, aimed to establish common measures to ensure consumer confidence in the purchase and sale of EVs.

Ms. Supamas highlighted the growing popularity of electric vehicles in Thailand, driven by the ongoing energy crisis. With a notable increase in sales, the Prime Minister has tasked her with overseeing the quality of sales and service during periods of high demand. Despite legal and fair business operations, complaints regarding quality and safety standards of vehicle parts have been reported. The government is committed to ensuring consumer protection, especially in terms of compensation and protection in case of incidents, to maintain fairness after sales.

Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, Ms. Supamas stated that the government is working with stakeholders to develop a unified approach to address these issues. The goal is to enable businesses to thrive alongside consumers, fostering confidence in purchasing and using electric vehicles. The government plans to regulate and oversee the industry to prevent future problems, and will intervene on behalf of consumers should any issues arise.
