Supamas Leads Initiative to Ensure Quality of Gold Jewelry in Yaowarat

Bangkok: Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, led a delegation to the Yaowarat area to ensure the quality and standardization of gold jewelry. The visit aimed to build public confidence in the gold jewelry sector and guarantee that products meet legal requirements.

According to Thai News Agency, the delegation included Mr. Ronnarong Poolpipat, Secretary-General of the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB); Mr. Jitti Tangsitphakdi, President of the Gold Traders Association; and Mr. Sumet Prasongpongchai, Director of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand. This initiative is part of a project that collaborates with the Gold Traders Association, the Gemological Institute of Thailand, and the OCPB to elevate standards for Thai gold jewelry, focusing on weight, purity, labeling, and quality control. The aim is to ensure that consumers purchase gold of high quality that meets international standards.

The site visit was prompted by recent fluctuations in gold prices due to the Middle East conflict, which led to up to 20 price adjustments in recent days. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed concern for consumers engaged in buying, selling, and saving gold. The visit was part of efforts to restore public confidence in the gold market and assure that gold sold in stores is genuine and verified by relevant agencies.

Ms. Suphamas emphasized the proactive role of the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) under her supervision in safeguarding consumer interests. The CPB is addressing various consumer issues, including flight cancellations, fraudulent tours, mismatched online purchases, and electric vehicle labeling. Continuous follow-up visits are planned, and consumers experiencing problems can contact the CPB hotline or use the OCPB Connect application for assistance.
