Bangkok: "Supamas" warns against scams involving investments in gas stations and orders the Consumer Protection Board to expedite assistance to 6 victims who lost millions of baht.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that, in her capacity as supervisor of the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), she has been informed of complaints regarding entrepreneurs who allegedly defrauded investors by luring them into gas station construction projects. These businesses allegedly misrepresented the credibility of "well-known brands" and used social media for advertising, but the projects never materialized. Therefore, she has instructed the OCPB to urgently investigate and expedite the process.
The Consumer Protection Board (CPB) promptly coordinated with investigators at the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECSD) and learned that on April 24, 2026, six victims filed a complaint against a business owner who advertised the construction of complete gas stations with integrated systems, enticing landowners seeking to generate income. However, after the victims paid, they found that the work was stalled or substandard, preventing the business from obtaining permits from government agencies. This resulted in damages amounting to millions of baht. Furthermore, the business is still found to be continuing its advertising campaign. Therefore, the CPB was instructed to coordinate with relevant agencies to take strict action to protect consumers and prevent recurrence.
However, the public is advised to verify the credibility of businesses and be cautious of investments that involve misrepresentation of brands or exaggerated returns. If damages occur, complaints or advice can be sought through the Consumer Protection Board hotline 1166 or via the CPB's online channels, available 24 hours a day.
