Bangkok: Test results have confirmed that the woman who collapsed in a store showed no signs of "date rape drugs" in her system, with doctors attributing the incident to a possible lack of sleep.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Maj. Gen. Dr. Wirun Suphasinghsiripreecha, Commander of the Forensic Science Institute at the Police Hospital, disclosed on the MCOT News FM 100.5 program that a comprehensive investigation had been conducted into the case of a woman who collapsed and experienced amnesia while shopping. Initial blood samples were sent for extensive testing to check for narcotics, including substances like GHB commonly associated with "date rape drugs," following a request from investigators at the Makkasan Police Station.
The results conclusively showed that neither date rape drugs nor any of the 97 other narcotics were present in the woman's blood. The examination confirmed normal blood parameters, with no illegal substances detected. The findings, based on irrefutable scientific evidence, dispel any doubts regarding drug involvement in the case.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Dr. Wirun noted that societal assumptions connecting the symptoms of dizziness, unconsciousness, and loss of self-control to "date rape drugs" are understandable, as these substances are often linked to criminal activity. However, he emphasized that such symptoms can arise from various causes, including sleep deprivation. In this instance, the woman's condition might be attributed to fatigue after traveling extensively during the Songkran festival.
He further clarified that "drugging" through skin contact is exceedingly rare, as absorption typically requires ingestion, inhalation, or sublingual administration. Additionally, claims of being drugged in confined spaces, like taxis, would likely affect others present, though such occurrences are infrequent. Similarly, being splashed with water without ingestion would not lead to sufficient drug absorption to cause symptoms.
Doctors suggest that individuals should monitor unusual symptoms and seek testing when necessary. If experiencing abnormal symptoms in high-risk situations, it is advisable to immediately alert nearby individuals or authorities and seek medical attention to ensure safety and ascertain the facts.
