According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the results of a meeting at the Special Operations Center for the Administration of the Situation on the Thai-Cambodian Border, or SOC. She stated that while SOC previously confirmed it would not close the border but only increase strictness, the current situation necessitates closing borders at various points to protect sovereignty and ensure the safety of people in the area. This move is a progression from past measures, now reaching step four.
In foreign affairs operations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a briefing for foreign diplomats and assistant military attaches on the landmine incident in Chong Bok District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Ninety-three representatives from 68 countries attended, where the Thai side explained its position and actions, including direct protests to Cambodia and further actions. The representatives, especially the parties to the Ottawa Convention, acknowledged Thailand’s position and approach, which aligns with Thailand’s obligations. Following an incident where five army personnel were injured by a landmine in the Chong An Ma area, Ubon Ratchathani Province, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the sovereignty violation and expressed condolences to the injured soldiers.
