Thai-Cambodian Communication Strategy Aims to Establish Consistent Cross-Border Information

Bangkok: The Joint Information Center for the Thai-Cambodian Situation (JIC) has convened with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and various media outlets to develop a communication strategy focused on consistent and accurate information dissemination across the border area, reducing misinformation and enhancing international trust.

According to Thai News Agency, this meeting took place on February 19, 2026, at the Sailom 5021 Meeting Room, NBTC Office in Bangkok, chaired by Air Chief Marshal Praphas Sonjaidee, Director of the Situation Information Center. The session centered on "Communication Guidelines to Enhance Public and International Confidence in Thailand's Role and Stance in Managing the Border Situation and International Relations." It was a collaborative endeavor involving the NBTC, JIC, radio, and television operators, as well as representatives from various media branches.

Notable attendees included Mr. Trairat Wiriyasirikul, Deputy Secretary-General and Acting Secretary-General of the NBTC, spokesperson representatives from all branches of the armed forces, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Thai Police, and other relevant agencies. The meeting's objective was to foster collaboration among government agencies, the private sector, and the media to ensure the dissemination of accurate, verifiable, and consistent information, thus building public understanding and reducing misinformation on a national and international scale.

The Thai-Cambodian Situation Information Center was established in line with Article 16 of the Joint Statement, signed by the Minister of Defence, as a central mechanism for systematic and transparent communication about the Thai-Cambodian border situation. This initiative complies with international law and humanitarian principles, reflecting the government's commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty, protecting civilians, and maintaining a framework for peaceful negotiations.

Air Chief Marshal Praphas Sonjaidee, who heads the Information Center, emphasized that the mission transcends public relations, serving as an 'intellectual front line' to prevent misinformation and protect the country's interests. The effort is rooted in accuracy and legitimacy, adhering to the rule of law and international standards to promote lasting peace in the region.
