Lima: The Thai Embassy in Lima clarified that the situation in Venezuela will not affect the elections and referendums, and that overseas elections in five countries will proceed as planned on January 29.
According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima, Peru, which is responsible for managing parliamentary elections and referendums in five countries-Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Colombia-has revealed that the US military operation to arrest Venezuelan President Nicol¡s Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in Caracas, Venezuela on January 4th, will not affect the organization of overseas elections and referendums in Venezuela. This is because Venezuela currently has only one Thai citizen eligible to vote, who is currently returning to Thailand to visit relatives.
The Royal Thai Ambassador to Lima will organize two types of elections and referendums. The first type is voting at polling stations for eligible Thai citizens in Peru at the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima, located at 678 Coronel P. Portillo Street, San Isidro District, Lima, Peru, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
The second option is postal voting for Thai citizens eligible to vote in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Colombia. Voters must send their ballots to the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima by 5:00 PM on January 29, 2026.
Votes cast outside the Kingdom will be counted at the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima, Peru, on February 9, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM (Peruvian local time).
