Bangkok: The Thai military has issued a statement countering Cambodia's recent assertions regarding border control, emphasizing that its current activities are in line with existing agreements and do not alter the established boundary.
According to Thai News Agency, the Joint Press Center for the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation addressed Cambodia's stance, which rejects any border changes through force. The center highlighted that Thailand is adhering strictly to the General Border Committee's (GBC) joint statement, controlling the area without changing the border. On January 2, 2026, the center reiterated that Thailand has complied with the agreements from the GBC's 3rd Special Session held on December 27, 2025. Specifically, point 2 of the statement mandates maintaining current troop deployments, prohibiting further movements, encroachments, or patrols toward opposing positions.
The Joint Press Center clarified that actions taken by the Thai military are intended to maintain control and security based on the pre-ceasefire field situation and do not entail any border line alterations. The ongoing border survey and demarcation process will continue through the Joint Border Commission (JBC), as outlined in point 3 of the joint statement.
Reaffirming its commitment to international law and peaceful conflict resolution, the Joint Press Center emphasized that Thailand's actions aim to maintain peace, order, and public safety while respecting existing agreements and the sovereignty of all parties. Thailand also expressed its readiness to engage in constructive cooperation to reduce tensions, build confidence, and resolve issues through bilateral mechanisms, striving for lasting peace and stability along the border.
The Joint Press Center concluded by asserting Thailand's dedication to the joint statement and belief in the importance of respecting international agreements and laws to achieve long-term peace, security, and well-being for both nations' citizens.
