Thai Polo Team Triumphs Over Brunei in Thrilling SEA Games Opener

Samut prakan: Natthaphong Pratumlee scored five goals alone, helping the Thai polo team defeat Brunei 7.5-7, earning their first victory in the 2025 SEA Games.

According to Thai News Agency, the 33rd SEA Games polo competition is being held at VS Sport Club Babo, Samut Prakan Province, from December 3rd to 9th. This marks the first day of competition, with level 2-4 goals, featuring teams from five countries: Malaysia, Brunei, Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand. The competition follows a round-robin format, with four chukkas of seven minutes each.

The Thai national team, runners-up of the 29th SEA Games, is led by the “Srivaddhanaprabha” brothers, Aiyawatt and Apichet Srivaddhanaprabha, along with veteran athletes Natthaphong Pratumlee and Thanasin Chuewangkham. They faced Brunei, ranked third in the 29th SEA Games, led by Prince Abdul Mateen Bolgier. Initially, the Thai team gained 0.5 points from Brunei, with Brunei leading 5-1.5 points after the first chukka.

During the second chukka, Thailand’s performance improved significantly, with Aiyawatt scoring two goals and Natthaphong adding another, narrowing the gap to 4.5-6 points. In the third chukka, Brunei extended their lead with a penalty kick, making it 7-4.5 points. However, in the final chukka, Natthaphong scored three consecutive goals, turning the game in Thailand’s favor and securing a 7.5-7 victory.

Natthaphong Pratumlee emerged as a key player in this match, scoring five goals. Apichet Srivaddhanaprabha contributed with two goals. Thailand will next face the Philippines on December 6th at 6:00 PM at VS Sport Club, Bang Bo, Samut Prakan Province.
