Bangkok: The Secretary-General of the National Security Council is currently awaiting a signal from the Prime Minister to convene a meeting to assess the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border following a mortar fire incident that injured a Thai soldier. The Secretary-General emphasized the need for clarification, highlighting the significance of the matter at hand.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chatchai Bangchawad, the Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC), has called for an investigation into the incident where Cambodia fired mortar rounds, resulting in the injury of a Thai soldier. He refrained from commenting on whether this incident would breach the Joint Statement agreed upon at the recent Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) meeting. Mr. Chatchai stressed the necessity of reviewing the details further, noting that another NSC meeting would be held to evaluate the situation comprehensively.

Mr. Chatchai also mentioned that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has not yet indicated any course of action. He reiterated the need to assess the situation thoroughly and determine if the issue would be part of today's Cabinet meeting discussions. He urged patience while awaiting clarification, acknowledging the critical nature of the matter.

In response to whether Thailand's stance towards Cambodia might be revised due to the ongoing threat, Mr. Chatchai indicated that they would initially adhere to the framework of the Joint Statement. He mentioned that other issues would be reviewed at a later stage.
