Thailand Extends Air Navigation Fee Reduction to Support Airlines Amid Middle East Unrest

Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport in Thailand has taken decisive steps to support airlines by extending a 30% reduction in air navigation fees for an additional two months, a move aimed at mitigating the financial impact stemming from instability in the Middle East.

According to Thai News Agency, the extension was directed by Minister Phatarapong, who instructed the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand to continue the fee reduction. The decision aligns with the government's ongoing efforts, under the leadership of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, to support the Thai aviation sector as it contends with increased energy costs and operational challenges due to the Middle East unrest.

Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Pattarapong Pattaraprasit, has emphasized the importance of these measures. The Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co., Ltd. (AeroThai) has been tasked with implementing the extension of air navigation service fee reductions to alleviate the financial strain on airlines and enhance their liquidity.

The board of the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AROT) approved the extension on June 24, 2026. The assistance measures will cover the months of July and August 2026, featuring a 30% reduction in air navigation service fees for domestic flights. Additionally, the payment period for these fees has been adjusted, allowing airlines to pay 50% of the service fees as scheduled, with the remaining balance deadline extended by 30 days.

Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, highlighted that these measures are designed to ease the cost pressures faced by airlines, particularly with regards to fluctuating fuel costs. Furthermore, AROT is committed to enhancing air traffic management efficiency, reducing delays, optimizing time and fuel usage for flights, and maintaining rigorous safety standards.
