Thailand Implements Safety Measures Amid Middle East Conflict

Bangkok: In response to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, particularly between Israel and Iran, Thailand is taking proactive steps to safeguard its tourism sector. Ms. Natthariya Thaweewong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, announced a comprehensive plan to manage potential disruptions to flight routes passing through the affected region.

According to Thai News Agency, while Thailand's tourism sector has not yet been directly impacted, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is collaborating with various government and private sector entities to assess and mitigate any potential risks. The focus is on ensuring the safety and convenience of tourists who might be affected by flight cancellations or become stranded.

The plan includes several key measures. First, there will be integrated cooperation among affiliated agencies and partner networks, including the Tourist Police Division and Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited. These partnerships aim to assist stranded tourists by providing waiting areas, facilities, and coordinating new flights.

Additionally, the Department of Tourism, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the Tourist Assistance Center (TAC) will deploy staff at airports and major tourist attractions to manage and facilitate any arising concerns. Real-time monitoring of flight schedules will be conducted to keep travelers informed and prevent confusion.

To further enhance support, TAC officers will be stationed at major airports like Suvarnabhumi Airport for rapid response. The Tourism Authority of Thailand is also preparing packages for tourists unable to return home and those seeking refuge from the conflict. A 24-hour hotline will be available to assist and coordinate with tourists in need.
