Thailand Inventors’ Day 2026 Showcases Over 1,000 Innovations to Unlock Future

Bangkok: "Inventors' Day 2026" has commenced, featuring a remarkable display of over 1,000 inventions from both Thai and international researchers. This event highlights the potential of the younger generation to shape Thailand's future through innovative solutions.

According to Thai News Agency, the event is organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) in collaboration with government bodies, private organizations, educational institutions, and international research organizations. This marks the 27th annual 'Thailand Inventors' Day' held under the theme 'Unlock Thailand - Power of Invention and Innovation' from January 5-9, 2026, at Event Hall 100-104, BITEC Bangna Exhibition and Convention Center, Bangkok. The event commemorates the day the patent for the 'Chai Pattana Water Turbine' was awarded to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Presiding over the event is Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, who will also give a special address.

Dr. Wiparat Dee-ong, Director of the National Research Council, outlined the event's objectives. Attendees include Professor Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation; Professor Dr. Sirirerk Songsiwilai, Chairman of the Science, Research and Innovation Promotion Committee; and Professor Emeritus Dr. Suthiporn Jitmithrap, Chairman of the Science, Research and Innovation Budget Review Committee for Fiscal Year 2026, along with other distinguished guests.

Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul emphasized that a nation's growth is dependent on transforming knowledge into inventions and innovations rather than solely on resources. The Ministry is dedicated to using technology to assist the public, with research institutions and universities playing a crucial role in driving the "Quick Win" policy. In agriculture, a "Research for Practical Application" approach is promoted to reduce labor and risks for farmers, enhancing yield, income, and overall quality of life. In education, the focus is on upskilling the workforce in advanced technologies through short courses and the Sandbox program, aiming to produce skilled workers to meet labor market demands.

The goal is to graduate individuals with AI skills and modernize Thailand's education system by fostering technology development within the country. This involves collaboration between the government, private sector, and educational institutions to translate research into real-world applications. "Innovation is a shared responsibility," Mr. Panjaroenvorakul stated, urging for a collective effort to ensure Thailand remains competitive globally.

Dr. Wiparat Dee-ong reiterated the significance of the event, which honors the "Father of Thai Invention" and focuses on practical applications of over 1,000 inventions from more than 20 countries. The event also features exhibitions honoring His Majesty, National Research Awards, and inventions in agriculture, medicine, energy, and the environment. Additionally, a youth invention competition, "Thailand New Gen Inventors Award" or "I-New Gen," aims to inspire future innovators.

"The NRCT hopes this event will raise awareness and stimulate innovation development, driving sustainable growth in Thailand's economy and society," Dr. Dee-ong concluded.
