Bangkok: The Department of Corrections transferred former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from Bangkok Special Prison to Klong Prem Central Prison. While being transported, Thaksin smiled slightly and gave a thumbs-up to a reporter who shouted a question.
According to Thai News Agency, following the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions’ sentence of one year in prison, Thaksin was initially transferred to Bangkok Remand Prison. At 5:10 PM, a convoy of three white vans arrived at the prison. The second van, license plate number 1 N? 7412 Bangkok, was carrying Thaksin, who was seen wearing the blue shirt and black shorts typical for convicted prisoners. Despite reporters shouting questions, he did not respond but acknowledged them with a smile and a thumbs-up. The motorcade, accompanied by a grey Mercedes-Benz van linked to the Shinawatra family, then proceeded to Klong Prem Central Prison.
The Facebook page of Bangkok Special Prison announced that due to the Department of Corrections’ policy, the prison would be designated as a hub for pre-trial inmates, necessitating the transfer of finalized cases to other facilities. Relatives seeking visitation information were directed to contact various prisons, including Klong Prem Central Prison, Bang Kwang Central Prison, and others listed in the announcement.
