Bangkok: "Chulaphan" has confirmed that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will not take up the role of a party advisor following his parole, even though he will continue to be an influential figure within the party's spirit.
According to Thai News Agency, Chulaphan Amornvivat, the Minister of Labour and leader of the Pheu Thai Party, addressed Thaksin's upcoming parole on May 11th. He stated that the party has no specific plans in place for this event but expressed his joy for Thaksin, who, due to his advanced age, will be able to reunite with his family. Chulaphan clarified that the parole process has been completed and that any party members wishing to attend the parole ceremony are exercising their personal rights. Regarding the potential impact on the Pheu Thai Party's image, he emphasized that the party operates as a political institution and is not reliant on any individual. Thaksin's parole is seen as embodying the party's spirit, a legacy from the Thai Rak Thai era, while reaffirming that the political process and the party's mission are determined by the executive committee.
Chulaphan further elaborated that Thaksin's expertise could still be beneficial in various capacities. Thaksin might participate in events or offer insights on political or economic matters, although the party cannot dictate such engagements. While Thaksin is not expected to assume an advisory role, Chulaphan did not dismiss the potential for seeking Thaksin's counsel in the future. He acknowledged that Thaksin's ideas could be advantageous for society and should be discussed and implemented for national benefit.
As for whether Thaksin will publicly express his political stance post-parole, Chulaphan expressed uncertainty but noted that he is not concerned about the issue of Thaksin wearing an EM ankle bracelet. His primary sentiment is relief and happiness that Thaksin has been granted parole, considering the bracelet as a minor issue not worth tracking.
