Bangkok: Thammanat Phromphao has highlighted the complexities involved in forming a new government, stressing his preparedness to serve both in government and opposition roles.
According to Thai News Agency, Thammanat emphasized the challenges in government formation, noting that the process must wait for the official election results. He called on the Election Commission to swiftly address complaints affecting voter confidence to prevent them from becoming major issues. Emphasizing the Kla Tham Party's readiness to serve in either capacity, he underscored the importance of prioritizing the voice of the people.
Captain Thamanat Phromphao, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, expressed concern over ballot irregularities and recount demands in multiple constituencies. He urged the Election Commission to address these errors promptly to avert a potential political crisis. Thammanat stressed the party's respect for the people's voice and its commitment to adhering to established rules.
Thammanat indicated that forming a government is unlikely to happen quickly due to ongoing investigations by the Election Commission into election issues, particularly discrepancies between ballots and voter numbers. Complaints about vote counting in various areas, including Phayao Province, where he is a constituent, have been noted.
He warned that unresolved ballot irregularities could undermine public trust in the electoral system and emphasized the need for the Election Commission to prioritize public concerns to avoid societal unrest. He reiterated Kla Tham Party's commitment to legal processes and acceptance of the people's decision, viewing this as central to democracy.
Discussing the movements of other parties, Thammanat remarked on the normalcy of political maneuvers, including the Bhumjaithai Party's engagements with smaller parties. He acknowledged these parties' previous collaborations and similar approaches.
Regarding the likelihood of forming a government using the "Thai flag" formula, involving the Bhumjaithai Party and the Pheu Thai Party, Thammanat remarked on the uncertainty of politics. He noted the Election Commission's pending certification of results, required within 60 days, which would not allow government formation before February.
Captain Thamanat concluded by reflecting on the unpredictability of political careers, stating that nothing is certain until the official day arrives.
