Thammanat Prepares for European Trip Amidst Unresolved Government Formation Talks

Bangkok: Captain Thamanat Phromphao has confirmed that discussions regarding the formation of a new government have not yet commenced, highlighting that the Election Commission has yet to certify the election results. This delay is compounded by numerous complaints, particularly concerning ballot papers and the barcode system, which have captured public interest. Meanwhile, Captain Thamanat is set to travel to Europe tomorrow night following a meeting of the Kla Tham Party, emphasizing that the trip is purely for relaxation purposes.

According to Thai News Agency, Captain Thamanat, who serves as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and advisor to the Kla Tham Party, stated that no discussions have taken place regarding the allocation of ministerial positions. He stressed the importance of awaiting a clearer picture of certified Members of Parliament, especially party-list MPs, before initiating any government formation negotiations. Captain Thamanat expressed concerns over premature discussions in light of unresolved issues related to the election process.

During a recent party meeting, members of the Kla Tham Party were advised to exercise caution in their political engagements while awaiting the certification of election results. They were urged to avoid any actions that might contravene election laws, despite the positive sentiment surrounding the results. The party is set to hold an executive committee meeting on February 19th to establish its direction and ensure alignment among members before Captain Thamanat's planned trip abroad.

Captain Thamanat confirmed that his upcoming European vacation was arranged over a year ago and is not intended as a retreat from political developments. He emphasized that, regardless of whether the Kla Tham Party is part of the government or the opposition, it remains committed to advancing policies and significant issues through legislative efforts within the House of Representatives.

"Whether we are in the government or the opposition, we can do our duty. Policy implementation is done through the legislative process under a democratic system," Captain Thamanat reiterated, underscoring the party's ongoing commitment to its legislative responsibilities.
